Staff Sgt. Chad A. Caldwell was killed on April 30, 2008 in Mosul, Iraq, of injuries sustained while conducting dismounted combat operations. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.
Plan and simple, to know Chad was to love him. He was a man that others looked to for leadership and protection but also for a heart-felt laugh. The mischievous twinkle in Chad’s eye was always a signal that good times were on the way. His smile was infectious, and he had an uncanny ability to see the bright side of any situation. Chad took immense pride in his family, particularly his children. Chad was born July 18, 1983 at Fairchild Air Force Base. He was a lifelong resident of Spokane, a student of the Cheney School District. Chad was a decorated soldier and career military man who made SSG after only four years. He is survived by his wife Raechel, sons Trevor and Coen, of Maumelle, AR; mother Carol Caldwell, brother Justin and sister Krista all of Spokane; father Mark Caldwell, half-brother
Bryson and stepsister Hannah all of Hayden Lake. He also leaves behind his two grandfathers, several aunts, uncles, cousins, Jamie, Michelle and Savannah Stell and many dear friends. Thank you, Chad, for making the ultimate sacrifice. You are the true embodiment of a hero, and we will forever miss the man you had become. Although you are gone our love for you will never die. Stand down, SSG Chad A. Caldwell. Your mission is now complete; may you rest in honored eternal peace. SOUTS OUT!
