Pfc. Cody Moosman, 24 from Preston Idaho, died July 3, 2012 in Gayan Alwara Mandi,

Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire while he was on duty in a guard tower. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. He joined the military two years ago.

His family stated: “Cody told us when he was in 3rd grade that he wanted to be in the Army when he grew up, so he joined in 2010 at the age of 22. We think his experience as a Boy Scout, who reached the level of Eagle Scout, helped prepare him for his role as a soldier. He loved the idea of protecting his fellow citizens. Our family enjoyed watching him stand up for America. Cody loved the outdoors, and hunting and fishing were his passion.”

Friends remembered him as coming from a family of six siblings who are very close. Cody was a quiet young man who enjoyed tinkering with machines and engines and learning how they worked. He was proud to be in the military. He loved serving his county, he proud to be a soldier. Local veterans’ associations and other organizations began putting up flags in Cody’s neighborhood after hearing of his death.

He leaves behind his mother and father, Dennis and Mareen Moosman, two brothers and two sisters, his grandparents and his nieces and nephews who all very much adored him. He is deeply loved and missed by his loving family.
